Miserably Stable

Sorry for delay — it was quite a long night.

Most importantly… Paul is stable. All vitals are great. Surgery went exactly as expected/hoped. No surprises. Other than his liver, they were able to remove all visible evidence of cancer surrounding it. They also didn’t find any “extra” cancer that they thought they might find, which is great news. Overall, a very successful surgery to remove 1/20th of his cancer. 😉🙃

He’d downplay this for you (out of his optimism and outward positivity), but I won’t 😉 …. Post-op recovery isn’t anywhere nearly as easy as he had hoped/expected. He had a very, very rough overnight once the nerve block wore off. A significant amount of pain and just relentless nausea, sweats, etc, being managed (ish) by pain and anti-nausea meds. It comes and goes in severe waves.

He still hasn’t been able to eat any food since Tuesday (can’t even keep clear broth down), but we’re gonna try again in a few hours. Up until a few minutes ago, he hadn’t been able to stand at all without getting dizzy and severe pain, but he finally stood up and took an assisted short (but successful!) walk around the floor. Progress.

I will leave out MANY of the other details, but in general, he’s really going through a rough time, and he’s a freaking trooper. He’s not very communicative with the outside world just yet — I have NEVER seen him go this long without touching his phone in my life! — but I am sure he will be back to networking, facebooking, blogging, kicking ass and taking names in no time. I give it less than a week.

I’ll be happy to share some of Paul’s funny narcotics-induced shenanigans upon his approval when he wakes up ;)

Thanks again to everyone for all the support — it really means a ton to both of us. I’ll post again as soon as I can. (Or hopefully, Paul will!)
