Post-Embolization Update

Tuesday's scan showed some increase in size of his existing tumors as well as multiple new (small-ish, under 1 cm.) tumors, compared to his last scan from only six weeks ago. 😔. But localized to the liver and thankfully no visible tumors elsewhere.

Today's procedure went as planned. Unfortunately we won't know until his next scan in four weeks if the procedure worked (fingers and toes crossed, and accepting all the positive vibes).

He's thankfully sleeping now. The post-op pain has definitely been pretty difficult on him. The surgeon said given how much she did today, a lot of pain is to be expected. They finally have him semi-comfortable now, but he's definitely very, very miserable 😱.

So we stay here for 1-3 nights, depending on how he does.

What to expect next, which the surgeon explained happens in pretty much 80-90% of cases, is that Paul will experience "post-embolization syndrome." It's basically feeling like he has a bad flu, fever, aches, pains, and of course, localized pain in the liver. It's expected to last anywhere from 1-2 weeks and hopefully get easier day by day. But you never know — everyone is different. She has had some patients recover more quickly, but she did say those patients are the exception, not the norm. Let's just hope Paul's the exception. He IS exceptional... so... ya never know 😉).

Will update again soon. Thanks again, as always, for all of the support and prayers. 💜

He is tough and physically fit so I'd bet he'll recover quicker and handle it better than most. But it's awful to hear how he's suffering and our hearts go out to him and you. Keep going Paul, you got this.
